Christmas 25 December

Christmas or Christmas Day is observed on December 25 to commemorate the birth of Jesus, the central figure of Christianity. However the exact birthday of Jesus is not known. Narratives of his birth are included in two of the Canonical gospels in the New Testament of the Bible.

Christmas is celebrated as holiday period, and in Christianity it marks the beginning of the larger season of Christmastide, which lasts twelve days.
Popular modern customs of the holiday include gift-giving, music, an exchange of Christmas cards, church celebrations and songs, a special meal, and the display of various decorations in houses and churches; including Christmas trees, lights, garlands, mistletoe, scenes of birth of Christ, and holly. Several figures, known as Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas, and Santa Claus, and other are assumed to be bringing gifts to children during the Christmas season. Santa Claus is a popular figure, and several persons dressed as Santa Claus distribute chocolates and gifts to children.

Gift-giving, decorations and other festival activities of the Christmas festival involve heightened retail buying by Christians and the holiday is a key sales period for retailers and businesses. The economic impact of Christmas has grown steadily over the past few centuries in many regions of the world where Christians live in large numbers and also in countries which export to Consuming countries.
