1638 King Louis XIV born.
1997 Mother Teresa died in Calcutta at age 87. She was a missionary who did exemplary work in India. UN declared the day as International Day of Charity.


1826 John Wisden - English Cricketer - He is now best known for launching the Wisden Cricketers' Almanack in 1864 after he retired from first-class cricket.
