1520 - Martin Luther publicly burned papal edict demands he recant.


1901 - Nobel prizes announced for the first time. 1st Nobel Peace Prizes awarded to Jean Henri Dunant, Frederic Passy.

1915 - 10,000,000th model T Ford assembled

1932 - King Rama VII granted Thailand a constitution

1936 - King Edward VIII abdicated throne to marry Mrs Wallis Simpson

1948 - UN General Assembly adopted Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The day being  celebrated as Human Rights Day.

1995 - Ricky Ponting makes 96 on Test Cricket debut (Aust v Sri Lanka, WACA)

2012 - Google began selling of US$99 laptops
