1738 Bottle opener invented.

1755 - Samuel Johnson's A Dictionary of the English Language published in London.

1912 - Titanic sank at 2:27 AM off Newfoundland. 2,224 persons were on  board. Over 1,500 persons drowned while 700 were rescued by the liner Carpathia which arrived about two hours after Titanic went down.

1923 - 1st sound on film public performance shown at Rialto Theater (New York City)

1952 - Franklin National Bank issued 1st bank credit card

1955 - Ray Kroc started  McDonald's chain of fast food restaurants (Illinois)
