16 December History and Importance of the Day



1971 - Bangladesh got liberated from Pakistan
1972 - Bangladesh Constitution goes into effect

1991 - Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

2000 -  President-elect of USA, George W. Bush chose Colin Powell to be the Secretary of State. He is the first African-American secretary of state. Powell was sworn in January 20, 2001.

2001 - In Tora Bora, Afghanistan, considered as the hideout of Osama bin Laden, tribal fighters announced that they had taken the last al-Qaida positions. They had found no sign of Osama bin Laden.
