25 January - History and Importance of the Day

1565 - Battle at Talikota India: the Deccan sultans in combinations destroyed Vijayanagar's army and destroyed their capital Hampi Vijayanagar. This Hindu kingdom formed by driving out Muslim from South India flourished further for many more years. Marathas defeated Vijayanar Nayaks subsequently in Tanjore and established their rule. A large part of South India was under the Hindu rule under Vijaya Nagar Empire and its constituent rules of various areas.
1799 - 1st US patent for a seeding machine, Eliakim Spooner, Vermont
1881 - Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell form the Oriental Telephone Company.
1914 - An Indian mass meeting in Durban unanimously endorse the agreement between General J.C. Smuts and Mahatma Gandhi regarding voluntary registration, poll tax, recognition of Indian marriages and other matters
1915 - Transcontinental telephone service inaugurated (New York to San Francisco)
1924 - 1st Winter Olympic games open in Chamonix, France
1945 - Grand Rapids, Michigan becomes 1st US city to fluoridate its water
1979 - 1st documented case of a robot killing a human in US


1981 China Mao's Widow Jiang Qing was sentenced to death. But it was later converted to life imprisonment. She died in 1991 due to apparent suicide.
